Privacy Policy
For the Jam mobile app · Last updated: 8 August 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and protected when you use
Jam (the “App”), a recipe-saving and meal-planning app for households.
The App is operated by Jam Cook LLC (“we,” “us,” the data
controller). If you have any questions, contact us at
info@jam-cook.com.
In short: we collect only what we need to run the App — your account details and the recipes,
meal plans, and lists you create. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show ads.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
- Your email address and name, provided when you create an account.
- If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information (name and email) from
that provider to create your account. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.
Content you create
- Recipes you save — including recipe URLs, text you paste or type, and photos you upload or capture.
- Meal plans, grocery lists, cookbooks, notes, and household member information.
- Optional household preferences you choose to enter (for example dietary preferences).
Subscription information
- When you subscribe, your purchase is processed by Apple or Google,
and we use RevenueCat to manage subscriptions. We do not receive or store your full
payment card details. We (via RevenueCat) receive an anonymous app account identifier and
purchase/receipt information — such as which plan you bought, renewal and trial status, and the store
transaction — so we can give you access to the features you paid for.
Information collected automatically
- Diagnostic & crash data. If the App crashes or errors, we collect anonymous
diagnostic information through Sentry to fix problems. We configure Sentry to keep only an anonymous
account identifier and to strip your email, name, IP address, and network request contents before the
report is sent.
- Usage counters. We keep limited counters (such as the number of image imports per
day) to enforce fair-use limits.
- When you import a recipe from a web link, our servers briefly fetch that page to read the recipe.
This is a standard web request and involves our server’s IP address, not personal data about you.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and operate the App — saving recipes, syncing data across your household, and building
meal plans and grocery lists.
- To parse recipes you import. Recipe URLs, pasted text, and recipe photos are sent to
Anthropic’s Claude API to extract structured recipe details (ingredients, steps,
times). Anthropic processes this content to return a result and does not use it to train its models.
- To keep the App reliable — diagnosing crashes and errors.
- To authenticate you and keep you signed in securely.
- To manage your subscription — activating your free trial, giving you access to the plan you paid
for, and enforcing your household member limit.
3. How Your Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these cases:
- Within your household. Recipes, meal plans, and lists are shared with the members
of the household you belong to.
- Service providers who process data on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), image storage, and
hosting.
- Anthropic — recipe parsing (as described above).
- Sentry — crash and error reporting.
- RevenueCat — subscription management and purchase validation.
- Apple and Google — payment processing for subscriptions
through the App Store and Google Play.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect
rights, safety, or the integrity of the App.
4. Data Storage & Security
- All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).
- Your authentication token is stored in encrypted device storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore).
- Data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure, which may process and store data in the United States.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information and content for as long as your account is active. When you delete
your account, your associated personal data is deleted. You can request deletion at any time (see below).
6. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and the CCPA), you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information (you can edit most of it directly in the App).
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@jam-cook.com and we
will respond within a reasonable time.
7. Children’s Privacy
Jam is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from
children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will
delete it.
8. International Users
Jam is operated from the United States. If you use the App from outside the United States, your
information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where our
service providers operate.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last
updated” date above. Material changes will be communicated within the App where appropriate.
